Traveling around Europe, I saw carved architectural adornments known as “the green man”. He shows up everywhere as a part human, part plant creature. Some of these are very old, certainly as far back as early medieval. In Appalachia you can still find carvers who create the same images and have no idea about the “green man” connection. I think those images in Europe stuck with me on some important level.
